Yes people you have read the title right Toronto is having it's first EVER Rip the Run Way Show! I had a chance to sit down with the founder Lincoln Blades of Free Up Entertainment to talk about how this show has come to be. Lincoln Blades along with his partner Shawn Harris have been in the Toronto party scene and professional DJ's since 2000. Lincoln and Shawn started out as Reggae and Dancehall DJ's, which transcended into covering other genres of music, such as Hip Hop and R&B. Through all of this Lincoln and Shawn created the DJ team Links and Chef in 2003. In 2005 they started to put together events such as private parties, loft parties and invitation only events. While putting together all these events, Free Up Entertainment was then created and they have been none stop ever since.
TorontoStyle- How did you come up with the idea to have Toronto's first Rip The Run Way Fashion Show?
Lincoln Blades- "Well we wanted to do a hotel party first, and that wasn't quite working out. We were planning to have the hotel party at the Four Seasons Hotel but the time the party had to end would be 2am. We were trying to make it work, and decided that we could get people out at 9pm for a fashion show then after party. We thought about it and realized it wouldn't work. I contacted about 35 other hotels in the city and they just weren't having it. So we finally ran into The Ramada Hotel& Conference Centre who agreed to have the fashion show/after party until after 2am. We decided to keep the idea of the fashion show, word got around and the show just took on a life of it's own. We were going to have just 8 models and now were are having 30. I started to talk to my uncle Malcolm Smith(CEO of Barbados Fashion Week) at first about my fashion show. He put me in touch with the actual producer of the B.E.T Rip The Run Way Show, he was interested in the idea and now we are making it happen".
